God hears the cry of the poor . . . .

The absolute BEST thing about living and working in such a remote, impoverished place is getting to see GOD Himself working.

As many of you know, our East West/Kenya staff is comprised of just myself and Brian. With so many projects going on, we rarely have the time nor do we ever have the talent to raise the budget for these ministries.

We have LITERALLY seen GOD Himself provide for each project. We can not take credit for what He has done. He has lifted people up, at times - people we don't even know at ALL - to provide for HIS work.

Hudson Taylor once said,
"God's work done God's way will never lack God's provision."

I read that quote when I was a 27 year old, seminary student wife back in Dallas. It sounded nice & hopeful. But until you experience it - it is difficult to understand the power of God's provision. It is real.

I want to praise God for this very thing by sharing just a small example with you.

It's so true. God cares for the poor.

I am so happy this Christmas to see SO many people in my home country reaching out to the Legacy families and widows and orphans. It fills my heart with so much joy that I can't even explain it. We started with just three children a little over a year ago and now over 50 children are assisted with full-scholarships for tangible needs such as private schooling, housing, food, meat, shoes and Bible classes. Praise God! Every bit of it has been His doing, I will confess.

Brian is set to return from his trip to Maasailand and Sir Clyde's Imbirikani Girls Maasai High School project. He should get back today. From what I heard by phone, the trip was great and the project progresses really well. We also praise God for that.

The 2nd Turkana Churchplant will hold its official "dedication" opening service on Sunday. That day is also our 19th wedding anniversary. I honestly cannot think of a better way to spend it. I am humbled at what God has allowed us to see Him do throughout our marriage. He is a gracious and loving God.

Merry Christmas everyone!

God lifted up a sponsor for 3 young girls --- Rael and Rhoda (twins, 9 years old) and their sister Christine (11 years old) this week. They all live in a Kitale slum area with a father who has progressive AIDS. Their mother died from AIDS a few years back. They came to our program a week ago pleading for help because they had heard that we seek to help the most needy. I told them that the program was full and that we didn't have any sponsors not yet paired. But the hope in their eyes prompted me to ask them to pray. I asked the girls to pray that God Himself would provide them a sponsor. They agreed. And smiled. Ah, the faith of a child.

Not more than days later I received an email from someone I had never met - a man in Kansas - who had heard about the work in Kenya. He had heard of us through a totally different ministry. People say ministries often don't help each other. I have to disagree. Those that seek God's glory see themselves as one, no matter what the name of the organization is. I have seen this.

This man quickly adopted all 3 girls --- their schooling needs, food, housing, meat and hygiene needs for all of 2008. He donated online.  Just like that. An answer to a child's prayer. God Himself is to be praised. Because God Himself HEARS the cry of the poor.

A Kenyan pastor once brought a girl over who is an orphan and who needed to go to high school. After researching and verifying her information and placing her in school, I asked him . . . "Why, seeing as you are so poor yourself, are you seeking to help this child and the other children?" I had seen how he had helped others with food, clothes and what he could.

He did not hesitate. He replied,
"When I need God the most, He will remember that I helped those in need."
