Church was especially good today. The sermon was on Psalm 23 and the pastor at St Luke’s Anglican, where we attend, encouraged us to think about whether or not we’re being the best “shepherds” we can be to the flocks under our care. If you’re a mom --- are you being the best mom. A teacher - the best teacher. A dad - the best dad. A humanitarian - the best humanitarian. Etc. It got me thinking that I need to focus less on expanding the programs to reach more people and more on making sure that everyone in the program is currently being shepherded properly spiritually . . . and not just focus on physical needs. We have twice/monthly Bible studies for the children and once/monthly for the women ---- but I felt convicted that we need to step up these parts of the program even more so. And that I also need to focus more on the spiritual development of my kids. I think when they start to get older, as a parent ---- you start to loosen up a little. Or at least I do/have. I used to really focus a ton on the kids spiritual development. Maybe because I’m more wired to lead little children than older ones and I’m not that good at it. But I still need to focus on it more. It was a good sermon. Afterwards, we went and checked out the bore hole progress at the children’s home. We stood in a circle and prayed for the $15,000 to buy the adjoining plot. I have faith that we will one day buy it. Primarily because I asked Joseph, the Maasai, to pray. He gave his offering at church today of 15 shillings (around 30 cents.) He doesn’t have hardly any money to speak of but he gives to God and he has served God more faithfully this past year than anyone I know. He has such a strong walk with God --- it is humbling. So Brian and I turned to Joseph as we stood on the piece of land today . . . and Brian said, “Joseph, we need 1 million shillings for this land. Can you loan it to us?” Then he laughed. They both laughed. And then Brian said, seriously, “Will you pray that if it’s God’s will . . . He will give us the money for this plot of land?” Joseph prayed. He’s the most amazing praying-person I’ve ever known. I’ve seen God answer his prayers so many times --- in weird ways. It’s a TON of money and we’ve never been good at “finding” money or raising it but I’m feeling pretty confident right now about the land.  I’m discovering a secret arsenal here in Kenya --- the longer I stay.
