unrest
The nation has begun to unravel due to the tight election. CNN is announcing a winner but in Kenya - this is not the case. No winner has been announced by the electorate. Both sides are simply announcing themselves as the winner. Riots have broken out. Businesses are being burned. Cars are being stoned. Buses are being hijacked and robbed.
I received the following text messages last night and this morning:
"We are in danger. Please pray for Kenya. Things are bad." - Judith Mutange (regional director for Adopt a Legacy)
"Things were bad in Eldoret and Daniel was caught in a riot and his life was threatened. He got out and we didn't leave the rest of the day." - Amanda (a 27 year old American serving a 6 month term in Kitale along with around 10 other American singles.)
"Kisumu, Eldoret, Mombasa - all riots. We here are in a PANIC. We are praying and are indoors." - Mahendra (a Hindu businessman in Kitale, and friend.)
"Here there is no peace. There was fighting in Kitale and Kisumu. We pray for peace." - Esther (the wife of Moses and a partner in Legacy.)
Thank you for remembering our loved ones in Kenya - especially the children and orphans in Adopt a Legacy. Having lived in Kenya for nearly 7 years, we understand the climate. It is not a good situation. Rioting and mob violence is often characterized by irrational actions and many innocent people suffer. We/they appreciate your prayers for God's divine intervention and protection and peace. Thank you.

{kenya election ’07}
“A looter was confronted by Kenyan riot police after he was kicked out of a store he was ransacking in the Mathare neighborhood of Nairobi yesterday. With votes in 180 of 210 constituencies counted, opposition leader Raila Odinga clung to a small lead over incumbent Mwai Kibaki by 38,000 votes, but delays in the tallying raised suspicions of rigging and sparked nationwide riots.” (BONIFACE MWANGI/AFP/Getty Images)
