luo and kikuyu
luo and kikuyu
Tribal names are starting to come out some in the post-election violence. Mainly, that the Luo’s are fighting the Kikuyu - burning their homes, killing them. And that the Kikuyu are fighting the Luo’s. Same way. Sometimes, you might hear that the Luyah are also joining with the Luo’s to fight against the Kikuyu.
This photo was taken not long ago. It is a symbol of a unified Kenya.
On the left is Amy, a Kikuyu.
In the center is Otieno, a Luo.
On the right is Scovia, a Luyah.
All three are either orphaned or victims of parents with AIDS. All three have already struggled in life to get where they are. All three are friends with each other. I can only pray that this picture will be the picture of Kenya in the future. Because we need each other . . . we need to learn how to work together. We all do.

{amy, otieno & scovia)
I took this photo just a few weeks ago on the special “parent’s day” at Legacy school. At the time, NO ONE would have predicted such a divided Kenya.
